Rumors Goldman Sachs and British Airways Could Bid for AMR (AMR) - BusinessWeek

BusinessWeek's Inside Wall Street column discusses rumors AMR (NYSE: AMR), the parent of American Airlines, is a buyout target of a group that includes Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) and British Airways (NYSE: BAB) in a deal that could be worth $46-$52 per share.

NOTE: A follow-up report from Reuters said the two have no plans to bid for AMR, citing sources familiar with the matter.

UPDATE: Catalina Marketing (POS) Confirms Offer, Goldman Hire

UPDATE: Catalina Marketing Corporation (NYSE: POS) confirmed that it has engaged Goldman Sachs & Co., as financial advisor, following receipt of an unsolicited expression of interest from a third party private equity firm with respect to the acquisition of the company.

The Company's board of directors formed a special committee which has authorized Goldman Sachs to solicit expressions of interest from other third parties and advise it with respect to the board's consideration of any expressions of interest and the advisability of pursuing a sale of the company.

UPDATE: Claire's Stores (CLE) Confirms It Hired Banker to Explore Strategic Alternatives

UPDATE: Claire's Stores, Inc. (NYSE: CLE) confirmed that it is exploring strategic alternatives for enhancing shareholder value, including a possible sale of the company. The Company has retained Goldman, Sachs & Co. as its financial advisor to assist in this effort. FTD Group (FTD) Takeover Bait?

Yesterday, Reuters reported that FTD Group (NYSE: FTD) hired Goldman Sachs to explore a possible sale. The flower delivery service is majority owned by private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners, which took the company public only 19 months ago. The stock is flat today after rising 5% yesterday.

Timberland (TBL) Exploring a Possible Sale - WSJ

According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, Timberland (NYSE: TBL) is exploring a possible sale. The company has hired Goldman Sachs to assist in the process. According to the paper, the company is active with private-equity firms but a deal is still some time away.

Timberland is a global leader in the design, engineering and marketing of premium-quality footwear, apparel and accessories. Timberland markets products under the Timberland(R), Timberland PRO(R) Series, SmartWool(R), Timberland Boot Company(TM), Mion(TM) and GoLite(R) brands.
